Yesterday (9/30) we witnessed a splendid migration through our back field. I'd been waiting for the day I'd see larger numbers instead of the 10 or less I'd observe in an hours time.
On Friday while fueling up around 2 I witnessed several monarchs passing through from the northeast. There were 5 just while I was at the pumps. Driving home I saw another 6 so I knew this could be the weekend.
Yesterday (9/30) they were migrating through in a steady flow coming at us from the north and northeast. It was 1:30 and my husband and I witnessed 10 or more a minute coming through! Some were soaring high and riding the wind, others flapping madly as they passed at lower altitudes and then those stopping at our perennial bed to nectar on the butterfly bushes and plants in bloom. None of the butterflies nectaring in the flower beds were tagged so all were migrating through!! We had to leave but were out there close to an hour. Very happy news to see so many yesterday – it’s about 2 weeks later than normal for us.

After a rainy morning, my husband went out to release two ‘late bloomers’ we had from yesterday. The sun is out and he said ‘migration has started back out’. A constant flow through the clear cut which runs at the back of our property. I just love it!
