Signs of Fall

Date: 10/01/2012

Number: 1

Today is a definite autumnal day, chilly, cloudy, and touches of red and yellow in the maples, poplars and other shrubs and trees.
Leaves being scattered on the ground by still breezes. The garden nearly denuded of summers vegetables. Wisps of phlox giving up their final nectar to a stray bee or hummingbird. Although I suspect the hummers have since escaped to warmer climes since I've not seen one for a couple of weeks. This morning the Eastern Bluebirds were inspecting their houses after being on their adventures these past months over hill and dale. The sparrows decided to rush them away. A flicker has appeared scavenging for insects in the lawn to increase his migratory fat.
I don't see as many of them on the ridge as I used to. Enjoy autumn's lukewarm days as winter is fast on its heels.
