Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/01/2012

Number: 1000

Monarchs were coming in from the north all day along with some buckeyes, red admirals, painted ladies and dragonflies. Between what we saw dropping out of the sky by our cottage in the city (at one point groups of 3-5 were dropping down, and what we saw coming in along the beach and state park, we had to have seen at least 1000. In the morning over at the point some seemed to be trying to leave and many were turning back. The golden rod along the dunes was covered with butterflies, the majority were monarchs.
