Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)

Date: 10/02/2012

Number: 3

I had not seen a single hummingbird all summer long but now that it is fall, I am seeing new ones everyday as they migrate south. I even put up red reflector tape in the Spring to see them like I did last summer but they never came until early September! Now I can hardly keep my feeder full...and once they arrived, I noticed a HUGE decrease of mosquitoes as they are eating them! I watched out of my front window as one buzzed around the Maple Tree in my front yard eating mosquitoes. I did not know what they were doing at first but I figured it out! It was SUCH an interesting sight to see! I also have Lantana bushes all over my yard but for some reason, they just did not come this year like in past years until Spring! I am just grateful that they did finally come and are still coming AND I am seeing both males and females! (They fight over my feeder and eat mosquitoes and insects all day long from dawn till dusk! So happy to have them around!:)
