While at National Zoo last Friday, I spotted two monarchs visiting the butterfly bushes in the upper half of the park. The beautiful female on the white-flowered one was quite cooperative, and allowed me several photos with her wings in various stages of being opened and closed. Made me very happy! I'm also SO happy that there's a "Journey South", as in the springtime, it's very rare for me to see a monarch 'journeying north'. I have much more success come late summer/autumn with sighting these magnificent creatures.
