Released one female today, ~ 1.5 days after she eclosed. Had kept her inside with nectar source due to rainy, cool weather; mid-day today finally brought warmer temps and increasing sunshine for a better day to fly. Immediately after release, she sipped nectar from Verbena bonariensis (photo), then flew off into the garden to visit other flowers. About 45 minutes later, I saw a Monarch flying along our road - I'm guessing it was the same female, finally starting the journey south. She is one of 6 Monarchs taken inside as cats last month. Two more should eclose tomorrow.
