Monarchs, along with many red admirals, some buckeyes, painted ladies, and mourning cloaks (I counted 16 of them-I thought it was most unusual), arrived in a continuous stream from the north today. While on the beach between noon and 1:30 I counted 210 monarchs but only watching within my line of vision. When I looked off shore, I saw many butterflies fighting the wind to get in.
In the late afternoon monarchs were roosting in MANY small clusters (the largest I saw was about 50) all over the city, and at the point. Most were in deciduous trees.
