Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/02/2012

Number: 1

Saw our first of season monarch crossing the intersection as we stopped for the light at 3:00 another far off ... we just haven't been looking. We had over 6 inches of rain Saturday and several funnel clouds ... one hit our Tractor Supply Store with minor damage and came near (over) our house ... scary. Two days of NW and W winds and some sprinkles coming down on the jet stream.

Pasture had 2.2 inches of rain total. There is a fair amount of scattered A.viridis starting to bloom on the east side of Victoria along US77 and 77/87. We are going out to the pasture for several days after tomorrow to see what we can find ... monarch and A. asperula wise. Goldenrod is just beginning to turn yellow/gold plus the false willow is turning white so there will be something to nectar on. We went from 20 RTHBs Saturday at one time (after 80 to 100 the weekend before) to almost none after the front finally passed thru on Saturday ... they rode that north wind right on out of here.

Monarch numbers should really increase in two weeks ... we'll see ...
