Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/06/2012

Number: 7

I have seen 7 hummingbirds, all female ruby-throat. Twice, I saw two together. One time they were chasing each other all over the place, as usual. But once, I did see two females sharing the feeder. I have never seen that before! Usually, they chase each other away. They were on opposite sides of the feeder, and for the most part, while the one on the far side was drinking, the one on the near side was looking all around. The one on the near side did also drink, but not as much as the other one. When the hummer on the far side decided to take off, so did the other, in the same direction. Do they watch out for each other, like Cardinals? These, as I said, were both females. Sisterhood!
