Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/06/2012

Number: 1

While out walking, I observed one adult flying over a field. The temperature was still in the 70s, but it is dropping significantly - hope it makes it!

Also, one of our class butterflies died while emerging from the chrysalis on Friday. It had abnormally small wings, but we were able to tell that it was a female. It had taken more than a day to form the chrysalis and had left part of the exoskeleton on the top, so we had been worried that there would be a problem. We still have one chrysalis to go, but the temperatures are going to be in the low 50s, so even if it emerges in good shape, it will have trouble flying.
