Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 10/08/2012

Number: 500

Spread across Gay Feather (Liatris sp.) which is growing extensively at this time. Feeding heavily, usually not flying unless disturbed by observer. Monarchs were on every patch I checked, in some areas with one every 5 or 10 feet.

Total of 500 is a safe estimate based on flower area and density of Monarchs. It is possibly low. For example 10 acres of flowers with a Monarch every 20 feet calculates 1400 total.
