Sightings report image

I was at the Marriott Wardman Park enjoying one of their many lovely gardens when I spotted a beautiful male monarch in the vibrant-orange marigold bed. It was very windy, so although I believe he was trying to bask (take a sunbath with wings spread open), he was only able to open his wings about half-way against the stiff breezes. I had to take a lot of photos to get a clear shot, as he and the flowers kept getting buffeted around, but think this one I've included is quite lovely:-) Also that same day I found a much more tattered male monarch on a white butterfly bush at National Zoo. Looks like we may already be past peak migration here but I shall keep looking for migrants through the first week of November.
