Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/09/2012

Number: 1

I saw just 1 hummingbird (I believe it was a Rufous) early this morning. The first sighting I had this year was an adult male Black-chinned on 4/3/12. I have continuously seen hummingbirds every day this season starting April 11th through today October 9th. At the height of the migration we have dozens at the feeders and go through an average of 1 gallon of nectar a day. I was happy this morning just to see one of the last hummers for the season coming through. I will continue to keep my eyes and ears attuned to the late migrators. I expect (from many years of observation) to see stragglers now and then for the next three weeks. The latest that I have ever seen a hummingbird is November 4th.
