Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 10/09/2012

Number: 150

I did not check for overnight roosts, but Monarchs here often do not go to concentrated roosts when overnight temperature is warm, which is was.

Strong South wind all day. Checked about 3pm. Monarchs Spread thinner than yesterday and mostly on the Liatris that was shielded from wind by trees or terrain. Also saw around 30 flying under some of the trees where they sometimes roost. Possibly sheltering from wind.

They were not located located uniformly enough to do a statistical estimate of numbers. 150 is direct count. It is possible that more were sheltering in other trees and shrubs which are too numerous to check individually.
