Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 10/12/2012

Number: 50

Peak migration happening here in Dallas. Just driving around town you can see one or two flying around here and there. If I wasn't on the lookout for them, they would go un-noticed, but when you get to the garden, they're all over the place. Easily 60 to 70 nectaring on Gregg's mistflower and Frostweed. They nectar all day and as night falls they fly up into the live oak trees and roost, but not in big groups like a true roost. They spread out individually. The picure is of Frostweed, and it's covered with Monarchs. When this plant is in bloom, nothing draws them in quite like it.
