Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/09/2012

Number: 1

I am receiving reports today of monarchs heading west along the north shore of Lake Ontario at various locations. 150 km east at Presqu'ile, David Bree noted: "Saw a couplee of Monarchs floating by in the park today." One tough bug! It's about 57 F mid afternoon in Toronto (darn damp and cold first thing this morning), but inside my car, I appreciated how warm it was with the radiant heat of the sun. ( Had to go back inside this morning for a heavier jacket). Strong southerly wind, yet near Eglinton Avenue West near Victoria Park, north of Lake Ontario and elevated above the Don River and Don Valley (through which a 6 lane expressway runs), one tough monarch was flapping directly south into a southerly wind, struggling and making slow progress high above the street and over the traffic about 2:00 pm.
