Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 10/09/2012

Number: 1

There is an explosion of nectar source (frostweed, Liatris spp., Maximilian sunflower, cowpen daisy, prairie verbena, etc.) in the Texas Hill Country along the major flyway.
Recent timely rains have made a big difference in this area.
I've only seen an occasional adult monarch but last Saturday (10/06) 2 - 5th instars and a 1st instar were found during the weekly monitoring of the milkweed patch at the Cibolo Nature Center.
Last Sunday I led a Native Plant Society of Texas field trip at CNC and we spotted a 5th instar on A. asperula.
