The Ruby Throated Hummingbird arrived at 6:50AM for a long drink of nectar. Temperature 37F, raw and damp, low cloud cover but not raining as expected. I saw it perched in the nearby clump of tree and got more photos before I left for the day. I participated in the 6th annual Pondicherry NWR Big Sit Birding Event, at the Tudor Richards Observation Platform on the shore of Cherry Pond in Jefferson, NH. 35 species were tallied from the Big Sit site plus another 5 seen along the trail but certainly no Ruby Throated Hummingbird! The result summary notes that low cloud ceiling limited migration activity. It was no surprise when I got home and my husband told me he saw the Hummingbird around at 5:30PM.
