Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 10/15/2012

Number: 1

While watering my milkweed plants (Asclepias curassavica) this afternoon, I noticed a monarch caterpillar lying on the ground next to the plant. I was astonished since I hadn't seen any monarchs at all this fall. He was probably a 4 instar. I looked for others and eggs and found none. The caterpillar appeared healthy. I left him alone, went back a couple of hours later and couldn't find him.
