Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/15/2012

Number: 350

Spent all morning out on the Cunningham Ranch north of Eagle Pass and drove about 1.5 miles and saw about 60 monarchs. Came home to my house in town about 16 miles south and my back yard and the trees next door had 2 clusters: 50 in one 30 in another, then at least 20 flying around through the trees front and back. It had rained .5" between 11:30 and 1:00 in town and I think it caused a fallout. I watched the rest of the afternoon and the clusters have just kept growing.

I don't have a precise number. Anything over 400 would be too many, and anything under 300 too few. I blew the photo of 41 monarchs up in Photoshop and actually counted them. That enabled me to section off areas in the rest of the trees and make a  guess-timate.
