Sat, 10/13/12 about 11a.m. while driving suv in pasture, about two to three hundred monarchs swarmed from a live oak tree when we approached. This occurred three more times in a two minute interval, for a sighting total of over 1,000. This was the only occurrence in a two mile pasture loop. A water trough had over-flowed with a 10'x15' shallow pool near the monarch concentrations. There was an occasional light mist and thunder. This is what we saw, someone else will have to explain why the monarchs were not in flight, and again concentrated in the same trees after we passed.
