Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/17/2012

Number: 2

Saw one lonely butterfly crossing the highway in front of my carm (Yikes!) at 2:30. Temps were dropping and had gone from 60's to 50's in an hour. Steady, stiff wind blowing northwestardly, so it was struggling for each yard. Flying low for the heat of the asphalt and hoping buildings would block the wind a bit. Had let my last raised butterfly go an hour earlier, hoping that although the hard freeze we had over the weekend left very little for feeding, it would somehow find some food along the way. Had seen another monarch crossing my daughter's high school parking lot, very low to the ground just minutes before. Thought perhaps it was the one I had released at 1:30.
