Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/21/2012

Number: 1

I was cycling along the Grand River yesterday afternoon and was very surprised to have a fresh looking monarch flutter out of the bushes along the river bank. Our high was only 13 degrees C but it felt warmer in sheltered spots. A few fall asters are hanging on but we've had frost so there's not much food left for them. Also saw my first rough-legged hawk of the year as they migrate south from their arctic nesting grounds.
