I observed 2 adult male Ruby-throated hummingbirds. One bird was using flowers around the east feeder area. He did not use the feeder while I watched but instead used went for most of the blooming plants in that area. He typically shows up once or twice in the late afternoons. I really believe this bird is trap-lining from other gardens in my area and my home is just one of his stops before dark.
I watched as an adult male drank from the west feeder and then flew into the underbrush to perch after drinking. I think this bird has marked out the feeder as part of his territory. Whether this bird stays the winter in/near my yard, we shall see.
