As I was out late this afternoon watching migrant birds for a few hours, the silhouette of a single monarch appeared high up and dark against the clouds. It fluttered unusually slowly and steadily as I watched it grow smaller and become lost in the distance. An exciting sight, as I have not seen a monarch here for weeks- I'd thought I'd seen my last for the year.
