Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/27/2012

Number: 4

Observed 4 different Ruby-throated hummingbirds today. 2 were adult males and 2 were juvenile males (one might have been a female, but it looked like it had some light colored stippling on the throat). They were using feeders and blooms. I currently have 6 feeders up around my yard and lots of different nectar plants. Some of these hummers may be sticking around and others may just be moving through on their migration route.

I haven't noticed any territorial birds yet, though there is a west feeder that I have seen an adult male hanging around and perching in the wooded area right next to that part of my yard. He might be the only hummer to claim a feeder/area so far.

This is a photo of the new juvenile male RTH at the south feeder. Later I noticed an adult male trying to chase the younger bird off. The youngster wasn't intimidated at all. It sat at the feeder and took it's time feeding.
