I was in the Austin area running errands today and doing the early voting thing and I saw 3 Monarchs attempting to make the journey south.
They were heading in a West/Southwest direction fighting the strong southerly wind that we've had for the past several days.
2 of them were spotted in Dripping Springs along US290 and the other I saw as I parked on the top level of our parking garage in Austin (3rd level)
I could not determine health or sex other than they all appeared somewhat faded and were flying strongly considering the circumstances.
We collected the last of the fresh eggs and fresh larvae from outside our house on Wednesday the 17th of last week
We have about 18 chrysalides and about 20 larvae currently inside
We have not seen any additional eggs or larvae since then¦..but have seen a few Monarchs nectaring for short periods in our yard
We had one of our tagged Monarchs return briefly to nectar last week with a few others
The Blue Mist Flowers have been a magnet for them¦as well as the Frostweed
Tonight our weather will be changing significantly¦looks like it's about an hour or so away
The temps are currently in the mid 80's and the high will be 57 tomorrow
Overnight lows will be in the mid 40's thru the weekend and into early next week
The wind change will be a welcome relief from the humid muggy weather we've been experiencing
Perhaps we'll see the southerly flow of Monarchs pick up with a favorable wind.
