The wind has been strong out of the northwest and now down to north @ 11 mph. We saw the first monarch on the peninsula at the north end of the Lavaca Bay Causeway midafternoon yesternoon (10/27).
It was staying at the height of the grass along the edge of bay as did the few that followed.

Today (10/28) we saw the first coming across the causeway on our first trip over at 11:00. We let it calm down a bit more and at 1:00 there was a good trickle coming from the NE. We saw about 60 in 25 minutes some flying hard to the SW, others nectaring on a thin row of camphor daises that TXDot couldn't mow. Coming back across the causeway in the 3 minutes that I looked at the clock, we drove by or under 8 monarchs crossing Lavaca Bay.

Now to see what they are doing later when the wind calms a bit more and temp gets into the 70's ... Altus is getting her netting gear ready ... tomorrow may be the best day before the wind turns to the east.
