Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/28/2012

Number: 18

The Coastal Flyway opened nicely late this afternoon.
There were as many as eight passing the Tahoe in less than a minute and a couple of times I could see six out the front window at the same time coming at me along the edge of water.

There was at least one cluster that we knew of that was forming and we went back an hour after sundown ... Altus picked the pockets of all eighteen monarchs in that cluster.
She had also netted thirteen off camphor daisies between four and five ... that was doing it the hard way. Very few camphor daisies and the flow of monarchs weren't very interested in nectaring on them ... did see a couple of monarchs on stunted coreopsis. Tomorrow may be the best day and then the east wind returns until the weekend.
