Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 11/01/2012

Number: 2

After Hurricane Sandy we spotted 2 individual adult Monarchs (not together)on Mason's Island in Mystic, Connecticut. One was flying and the other was warming itself on the pine needles of a weeping black pine. Temperatures have been warmer than usual lately due to the "tropical" storm winds coming up from the South. Perhaps these 2 were blown back here with the winds. Both looked in great shape with no wing damage. We experienced night temperatures in the 30's a few weeks ago and temperatures are going down again now that the storm has passed. We hope these beauties make it south soon.
