After some thunder storms went out into the Gulf west to east late in the night we had a light north wind ... good monarch wind along Lavaca Bay on the midcoast of Texas. Our daughter texted us about four this afternoon that she had counted seven monarchs flying to the SW when driving to the NE across the Lavaca Bay Causeway. We waited until 6:30 (dark now) and went across the causeway to the two thorn trees at the edge of the bay where the monarchs stop when they decide they aren't going to attempt to cross the bay. Using the long range light we could see clusters in both trees ... Altus made her way thru the weeds with her LED head-light and was able to reach 15 large, plump monarchs ... about 10 were out of reach. There is supposed to more north wind and cooler temps and we hope for a repeat Mon and Tues.
