Signs of Fall

Date: 11/04/2012

Number: 1

Flocks of birds nearby the last few days. Occasionally we'll make a clap to hear the sound of them all taking off. No frost yet in our yard. Summer flowers still showing color. The leaves are all down w/5% left on 2 80' maples. Noticed that the 2 honeysuckles are still somewhat green and have only lost 15% of its leaves. Oct. started out cooler than avg. for a couple of wks. the 1 warm week of warmth with an 83f day (record) then return to colder than avg. up til now. Hurricane Sandy was a rain event here and didn't see the sun for 4 days. The grass still growing mulching leaves on lawn w/mulching mower saves alot of work. 14 day trend is warmer than avg and in 14 days that would be 51 degf. Birdbath still going, no ice yet. Saw an old Robin at the birdbath today while the nuthatch and small downy woodpecker were enjoying the suet.
