We typically plant right after Halloween. The trees are bare and winter is in the air. Despite morning temperatures in the 20's, we had a beautiful sunny afternoon for planting (in the upper 40's Fahrenheit). 75 2nd graders participated. They will be monitoring ground temperatures with a meat thermometer. When temps drop below 40 degrees, students will know root grow has stopped.
