Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 11/06/2012

Number: 40

It's been very cold and windy with the passing of Sandy and a cold front, yet today I was able to release 4 just hatched monarchs from my habitats. The milkweed is growing back as the counts have dropped these past few weeks however every plant I have has a cat or at least 1 egg on it. I brought in a dozen more cats to the habitats for protection, however there are three times as many more that I had to leave behind. I can only take what I can feed at a time, about 2 dozen. There have been several large monarchs necturing on the flowers this week. They don't seem to be interested in mating (they fend off interested parties) nor are they laying eggs. Perhapse its too cold for them.
