Tulips PLANTED

Date: 11/05/2012

Number: 1

Taking advantage of a non-raining day, our Annie Wright Day School third graders planted 92 Emperor Tulips. We first fluffed up the soil by turning it over with a garden fork and rake, then we made soil temperature predictions. We planted our tulips and took an actual soil temperature and many were surprised that the soil was just a bit warmer than the air temps. We also wondered what colors our spring tulips would be. We weighed additional bulbs and cut those few extras in half to examine their structures. We also compared them to seeds and their protective coatings.
