Tulips PLANTED

Date: 11/20/2012

Number: 1

Today was partly cloudy with a temperature of 63 degrees. Student representatives helped plant the tulips in the tulip garden after they followed the JN guidelines in choosing the perfect spot within the school/courtyard to plant. This site is a perfect location where the entire school can observe the tulips emerge and get motivated to study about plants and climate change. The garden area is easily accessible to the classrooms that have a door that lead right to it where temperature and weather conditions can be recorded daily. A representative for the Cooperative Extension discussed tulip bulbs and the parts of flowering bulbs and the class also compared the bulbs to an onion bulb. They loved peeling the layers of the tunic and guessing where the young living plant was encased inside the bulb.
The students also, had no problesm with figuring out to plant the bulbs right side up and measuring the depth and spacing of the plants. They also really ejoyed using the spades to dig the dirt and cover the bulbs.
