I had a chance to observe monarchs at several different times on this beautiful spring day. Around noon (sunny, 70 degrees F) I watched two females laying their eggs. Over the course of an hour I saw 5 more monarchs laying eggs, & 1 nectaring on a Yellow Thistle (Cirsium horridulum). The yellow thistles are always favorites of monarchs. At 2:45pm (75 degrees F) I saw a mating pair flying, 2 egg-laying monarchs, and one flying low over the field. Later, at 6:45pm I saw 2 monarchs flying around our chinaberry tree. It was a wonderful day of spring monarchs!
