Since October I had the same 2 male costa and Anna hummingbirds coming to my feeders since October. They arrived as juvenile males and I had the thrill of watching their colors develop. We had a mild winter up until 2 weeks ago when the low was 18* here in Las Vegas. They would show up everyday drinking the warm nectar I would take in at night and return in the am. The Anna controlled my courtyard and the Costa had the backyard feeder. Last Sunday Jan 20. I did not see the Anna all day. It was around 3 pm with him no where.... I let my dogs out in the back yard in Costa teritory and I find that beautiful precious Anna mature male lying dead on my patio. Our backyard windows are tinted with reflective tint due to the extensive heat here. I cried like my best friend passed. He was not familiar with the yard since his turf was the courtyard. Didnt realize he was darting into the window. My heart breaks. We buried him with love and care...he brought such joy these last 4 months. We'll see who takes over his turf...It's just a circle of life! I only wish he could have stayed!
