A large monarch enjoyed nectar from lavender blossoms next to a friend's front door. The observation continued for about 90 seconds, as I waited for my friend. Although I could not discern gender because I'm new to this, I did notice that wing markings (scales) seemed intact -- very different from the weather worn appearance of the monarch I saw 5 days later on my porch, about 5 miles from my friend's house (see report 1/20/13).
