Sightings report image

Number: 1

The robins were here by the hundreds eating Brazilian Pepper berries in the hedgerow behind my house. I recorded the din. They were very loud but the recording didn't come close to capturing the decibels. I keep water out for birds and, while the robins were here, I was putting about 2 inches of fresh water in 8 to 10 containers two or three times daily. They continued to drink all of the water. About a dozen robins are here during December, January and February but occasionally a large flock will swoop in to eat well. It's one reason I don't remove the exotic pepper trees from the hedgerow. As robins flew around after eating the berries, their droppings sounded like rain. Because their droppings were mostly seed, there was no mess; no white streaks. But there are quite a few pepper sprouts to pull out now around the bird baths. [photo caption] A few robins drinking from a cat litter pan used as a bird bath. Fort Pierce, Fla/USA January 9, 2013.
