Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 02/11/2013

Number: 1

I have seen two monarchs flying in Abilene, 40 miles south of me. I am beginning to see a few Admirals. We have no wild milkweed around at this point, but it's still cold here. We are growing curassavica that we dug up and kept in the greenhouse and from seed indoors to have ready for the early flyers. The drought has severely affected wild plants in our area, and road crews have scoured the bar ditches so that I am worried about antelope horns coming back. Will be checking. We need to do a plant walk soon to check for milkweed.
