Tulips EMERGED

Date: 01/31/2013

Number: 1

Ms. Sires' third grade class, 3C, observed that some of our tulips had emerged, about one third of them but we hope the others will emerge too! Students noticed that the leaves were green but the tops were pink and that they were close to maturing (blooming). Most of them weren't very tall yet but we estimated the tallest to be about 3 to 4 inches tall. When students touched the leaves they felt hard and had many layers. Students think that growth rates might be affected by varying bone meal and water amounts and also ants and termites in some parts of the planter. One of our students got bitten by a spider and needed medical attention. As we are filing this report on Feb 14, Happy Valentine's Day to all!
