I observed a tall tree in the marsh behind my house filled with redwinged blackbirds at dusk on Sunday, January 27, 2013. They were gone the next day. The earliest sighting of blackbirds in this marsh is typically March 9-March 16, and this is when they come to stay for spring-fall. We have never seen the blackbirds here during the winter. Thus, this sighting in January was extremely unusual.
