Unfortunately the monarch I found was dead, but in perfect condition otherwise. I looked at all of your identification slides and am 100% positive that it is a monarch.
The winter here has been brutal. Most of January was colder than 20 degrees. By mid February, we had been teased with warming temps, only to go back to freezing again. The day I found this butterfly, it was pretty cold again, snow on the ground, but it had recently melted on the gravel drive where he was laying. In the hope he was alive still, I scooped him up and took him inside while blowing gently on his wings. However upon a close look it was apparent that he was dead, although not for a long time.
We do see Monarchs in the summer. We also have a water pond with lots of colorful flowers around it, that attracts all kinds of butterflies and birds, and bees!
