Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 02/24/2013

Number: 1

First Ruby-throated hummingbird sighting of the year!
Male feeding on coral-honey suckle at 5:30 p.m.
Based on its feeding pattern it appears to be the resident male that was here last year.
I reviewed the wind patterns yesterday and put up my feeders this morning as the winds were very favorable for the north migration - strong southwest winds from Central American over the Gulf of Mexico into Florida.
This year's sighting is 13 days earlier than last year's sighting on March 8th.
