Tulips EMERGED
Sightings report image

Date: 02/06/2013

Number: 1

Our 2nd grade classes went to observe our tulip garden and were so surprised to find that some were actually coming up! The closer we looked, the more we could see their red tips just breaking through the soil. We counted 16 tulips sprouting up altogether. It was very exciting and students were even able to predict areas in the bed where tulips had not broken through the soil yet, but were on their way. They did this by making many close observations of tulips in different stages of emerging. They then discussed their ideas with each other and to confirm our hypothesis, we voted to lift the soil away from a spot where we predicted a tulip was close to emerging. Guess what! We were right! This has been a fun project all around and we can't wait to see the flowers start forming.
