This is a female. I left the caterpillar outside in the cold, wind & rain. Our winter temps are mild and they fluctuate; 60s one day, next day in the 50s, next day in the 40s, then back in the 60s. We do have temps at night sometimes in the 30s. One thing that I have noticed especially with this butterfly, they survive our low temps, but they develop slower. It took this butterfly a full month to emerge from the chrysalis. I brought it inside last night because we are suppose to get storms with strong winds.
