On Saturday March 9 it was very nice outside and I told my family that I thought the Red-winged Blackbirds would be back within the next two days and sure enough they arrived at our feeders the very next day on March 10. It was a no-brainer really since they are usually back by now and they are what I consider to be the true harbinger of spring. Forget the Robins - it's Red-winged Blackbirds that is the symbol of spring for me.
