Barn Swallow (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/17/2013

Number: 1

Observed one barn swallow outside my bathroom window. They usually arrive later in April. They nest in our basement.

I'll keep a look out but we are almost positive it IS a barn swallow not a tree swallow. It had the rosy beige markings around head and upper chest. We have had over 20 living in our basement for the past 25 years and they fly in and out of the open window to access their nests. This one perched on the telephone wire outside our bathroom window and flew toward it looking for the opening because we had the basement closed up for winter. I think it was an early scout. We opened the door to the basement in spite of the chilly weather today. If I see it again ill try to get a pic.
