Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/17/2013

Number: 1

I did not see the Monarch but have 35 caterpillars and eggs on the milkweed to prove she was here. I am excited beyond belief. My way station #4551 is filled with nectar plants and host plants, an 8' x 8' x 8' butterfly house for protection of the caterpillars and eggs the Monarch lays. Once she lays eggs I release her back into the open garden for her freedom. I do not believe in keeping anything captive but at the same time I have to be concerned with protecting their next generation. True butterfly gardening is hard work but worth every enjoyable second of it. The rewards for your hard work and endless. I wish everybody could experience it but so many never take the time or interest to see the miracles happening in their own backyard or neighborhood.
